OIU President Sean Cunial provided an overview of the Union's achievements in 2024. Guided by the mission to "engage, connect, support and serve," the OIU continued to foster engagement and spirit of service among its members. Key highlights of the year included: - St Francis House: The shelter provided nearly 2,000 meals and hosted over 1,000 guests, offering respite to those most in need. - Indigenous Mentoring Program: 29 mentors were recruited and matched with mentees, with training and WWCC (Working with Children Certificate) checks completed. - Mental Health Initiatives: Monthly newsletter updates and events aimed at promoting wellbeing are paving the way for impactful activities in 2025. - Events: Memorable occasions such as the Annual Sports Lunch, Dialogue Series, Golf Day, Nostalgia Mass & Lunch and approximately 15 Class Reunions strengthened bonds of old and new across the Riverview network. Sean also outlined the OIU's operational reforms, emphasising good governance, digital transformation, and strategic prioritisation. The AGM concluded with the election of new office bearers and the announcement of strategic priorities for 2025. These include further development of mental health initiatives, expanded regional and international gatherings, among others. The OIU extends its gratitude to all members for their contributions and looks forward to another year of serving its members, and supporting the community, true to the Ignatian ethos of being "Men for Others." |
