2023 Men For Others Award

On Sunday November 5, family and friends joined Committee members and past presidents for a reception to award Damian Tynan (OR84) the 2023 "Men for others award". This award was struck after discussion at the Committee to honour a member who's works had embodied the spirit of the School and our Ignatian values of service, sincerity and social justice. Since 1984 he has been organising all the reunions for the 84 year, keeping in-touch with everybody, keeping records up to date, keeping up to date with marriages, children, divorces, deaths, and miscellaneous adventures. Has spoken / attended all the Careers Evenings over the past 30+ years! - to assist boys with their careers. He was a regular Speaker or MC at events during the time Dom and Patrick were at the College e.g. Spoke at three Yr .12 Memorial Assemblies, Careers events and afterwards - Other Yr 12 Memorials, MC at Careers nights, Gold Cup Challenge MC, Has refereed rugby games for many years - and is still going • Ran the 'heads & tails' in his ref's uniform for various college events. Drove boats at the Rowing Gold Cup, Got married in the college chapel and is a ‘self confessed Riverview tragic’. Surrounded by family and friends "Ticka" accepted the award from the OIU President after Rector Fr Tom Renshaw read out a prayer. Thanks to the College and Dr Hine for hosting us in the parlour. Also a shout out to the many past Presidents of the OIU who joined the celebration and gathered on the portico steps for a class photo at the end ! Daniel Bolger 2024 Committee |
