NEW VENTURES FOR YOUNG ALUMNI AT ST. CANICE'S

St Canice's Kitchen is a restaurant and community hub for the marginalised and homeless community of Sydney. Its purpose is dedicated to extending social welfare and other community care services to those experiencing social isolation, loneliness, and domestic violence with particular attention to rough sleepers. It operates six days a week, serving lunch and beverages at no cost to the guest for roughly 150-200 people per day. Various medical and legal services are available to guests as well as access to showers, toilets and clothing. This is possible due to being entirely driven by a cohort of 300+ volunteers, and relying on donations and government grants to keep their doors open. This is an exciting new initiative that was started by a group of Old Ignatians and Old Aloysians during the COVID-19 lockdown. Colombière will partner with and develop social enterprises that deliver social impact in disadvantaged communities. It will bring together both young leaders and older mentors looking to use their professional skills to give back, and connect them to social entrepreneurs within the Jesuit network to help develop community-led projects. The project team, headed by Oscar Deane (OR13) is still in the process of setting up Colombière including obtaining DGR tax deductibility. We are forging ahead with potential projects in Sydney, Timor-Leste, India and Thailand. We'd love for any opportunity to engage Old Ignatians in our exciting work. We're having a soft launch in about a months time with existing young adults and mentors, so that might be an opportunity for anyone interested to come along and learn more about Colombière?
