James Gooden's (OR1986) connection to Riverview began in 1980, a place that holds deep significance, not only for him but for his family. His father, Lynton Gooden, also attended Riverview, and James takes pride in the fact that both of his sons, John and Alex, have followed in their footsteps. The Gooden family has strong agricultural roots. James and his wife, Helen, have three children. Their daughter, Kate, works as the Grower Services Manager for Northern Cotton in the Northern Territory. Meanwhile, John and Alex recently started a contract farming business in their region. For the Gooden family, agriculture has always been more than just a way of life; it is their passion and the cornerstone of their values. In 1988, just after finishing school, James faced a profound tragedy with the untimely death of his father in a fatal accident. This event deeply impacted his life, prompting him to vow to continue his father's legacy by remaining involved in agriculture, focusing particularly on farming and grazing. This personal commitment has remained unwavering. Recently, James played a key role in establishing the Riverina Sustainable Food Alliance (RSFA), where he served as Chair. For five years, the RSFA lobbied to protect the region's agricultural land. He believes developments, particularly solar farms, should not be built on highly productive agricultural land, including classes 1, 2, and 3. Throughout this journey, James worked closely with various political parties and government officials, fostering meaningful discussions that led to national recognition. His efforts highlighted the power of grassroots action and community involvement. Currently, James faces a new challenge: advocating for stronger representation in the seat of Riverina. As an Independent candidate, he is committed to providing the region with a voice that truly understands its concerns. James believes regional communities deserve a stronger, more authentic voice in the political landscape and he is determined to be that voice. He has been traveling throughout the Riverina, engaging with people, listening to their concerns and sharing his vision for a better future. He knows that together, the community can make a difference, but it will take collective effort from everyone who believes in a brighter, more sustainable future for the region. |
