Old Ignatians' Cricket Club – Canberra Tour
Monday, 27 May 2024

On Saturday 13 April, the Old Ignatians’ Cricket Club (OICC) travelled to Canberra to play against the Weston Creek Molonglo Veterans (aka the Creaky Knees) at Chisholm Oval.

The game was organised by OICC President, John Colquhoun (OR1989) and two former long term OICC team mates and now Canberra residents, Greg Carrigan (OR1989) and Matt Collins (OR1990), who both now play for the Creaky Knees.

The OICC squad included Angelo Maiorana (OR1989), John Colquhoun (OR1989), Srian Perera (OR1979), Ben Frawley (OR1987), David McKay (OR1989), Angus Frawley (OR2016), Alan Broadbent, Stuart Barlow, Raj Wanzare, Rohit Mahajan, Rohit Mohan and Charlie McKay (Class of 2024).

The game was played on a perfect Canberra day, with clear blue skies over Chisholm Oval. OICC batted first and scored 9 for 183 off 40 overs, with highlights including Ben Frawley batting with son, Angus, and David McKay batting with his son, Charlie.

In reply, Creaky Knees finished 7 for 148, with Ben Frawley picking up 2 for 25 in a tidy display of medium pacers.

It was great to see three generations of de Carvalho family at Chisholm Oval. David (OR1980) and his wife, Andrea, were visiting their son, Ben and his young family in Canberra, and they all called in to watch some of the game.

A post-match dinner was held at Banana Leaf restaurant, where the team was joined by Jack McKay (OR2017), son of long time OICC player, Bill McKay (OR1980).

Overall, the OICC cricket tour to Canberra was a great success, with plans already forming for a repeat fixture in 2025. Well done and thank you to the organisers.

For anyone who is interested in joining the OICC, the club has four teams, comprising two teams which play on Saturdays, and two teams (Over 40s Masters, and Over 50s Classics) which play on alternate Sundays. Please contact the club on oldiggiescricket@gmail.com for more information.
