Old Ignatians' Cricket Club Masters and Classics
Wednesday, 21 December 2022
Old Ignatians' Cricket Club Masters and Classics currently runs 2 teams. One in the Sydney Masters (Over 40s) Competition and one in the Sydney Classics (Over 50s) Competition. The photo is of our new playing kit and pre/post game Redmen outfit thanks to the support of the OIU, Kris Mason (OR 94) of MBS insurance, Michael Toal (Kings OB 88) of SCMFG, & Anthony Spon-Smith (OR 96) & Jeremy Byrne (OR 96) owners of Coco Republic.

We began the Masters in 2007/08 and the Classics in 2020/21, and currently have 40 - 50 active players with 114 players across our 16 seasons. The Classics side currently sits 6th on the table and the Masters 11th. The competitions are played in a very friendly environment on top level ovals throughout Sydney like Mosman & Rawson Oval, as well as our home ground Ryde Oval. The competition also provides the opportunity to not only represent the Port Jackson (Sydney) region but also achieve higher honours, where a number of our players have represented NSW at over 40s and over 50s level. 5 players from the original side in 2007/08 are still active members of the playing group. We’ve not yet managed to hold the trophy aloft, but the aim is to enjoy your cricket, and in the 2021/22 season OICC Classics won the most important award - The Spirit of Cricket Award (awarded by the umpires), and 2 players, Kris Mason (OR 94) and Ben Frawley (OR 87), have won awards for Leading Runs Scorer (Ben Frawley & Kris Mason) and Best & Fairest (Kris Mason). 13 of the 114 players have achieved 1000+ runs, 50+ or 100+ wickets & 50+ games or a combination of these milestones. Michael Fahey (OR 80) on 98 games, will likely be the first player to achieve 100 games - a fantastic commitment to OICC.

Cheers
