From Thursday 4th December through to Sunday 7th, Saint Ignatius College once again hosted the Ignatian Children's Holiday Camp, welcoming 28 children who live with with physical and intellectual disabilities. This camp provides a wonderful multi day experience for the children, while also providing respite for their parents and carers. The ongoing success of the Childen's Holiday Camp is only possible through the generous support of many volunteers. This year, 60 Year 11 and 12 students from Riverview, Loreto Kirribilli, Santa Sabina, and Monte volunteered their time to serve as Companions, where they take on the responsibility of caring for the children throughout the four-day event. In addition, more than 40 former students returned as Ex-Companions to assist current volunteers and help facilitate activities. Each day, ten or more parents arrived at 7:30 am to make beds, while another group of ten came in each evening to help settle the children. Thirty medical professionals—consisting of doctors and nurses—volunteered their time and expertise over the weekend, and 50 Riverview staff members generously also gave their time to support the camp. The ICHC Committee would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the Old Ignatians' Union for their generous donation, which made activities such as the ferry ride to the Aquarium possible, and to all the Old Boys who dedicated their time and efforts to volunteer and support this very special event. |
