de Carvalho XI wins the de Carvalho Cup for 2025/26
Monday, 13 October 2025

The annual de Carvalho Cup cricket game between the Riverview First XI and the de Carvalho XI, comprising Riverview Old Boys, was played in blustery conditions on Fourth Field on Sunday 12 October.

The match is played to honour the memory of David de Carvalho (OR1948) and his brother, Sonny de Carvalho (OR1941), whose influence on cricket at Riverview has been significant and lasting.

The de Carvalho XI was captained by David de Carvalho (OR1980), and included players from OR1971 through to OR2024. Special guests included Mrs Joan de Carvalho, Mark de Carvalho (OR1987), John de Carvalho (OR1989) and honoury old boy and long term Riverview First XI coach and Riverview Sportsmaster, Mr Michael Punch at the game.

It was great to see James Rodgers (OR1971) in action, and to see the First XI in its final trial game before the start of the GPS season on 18 October. Many thanks to the First XI parents who organised the catering, and to the Riverview Cricket Program Coordinator, Jason Krejza, for organising the game.

For the record, the de Carvalho XI won the match, scoring 8-272 before dismissing the First XI for 181, thus returning the de Carvalho Cup to the Old Boys after the First XI had won the previous two matches.
