June 14 marked a long-awaited return to 1st Field for the annual Riverview vs St Joseph's College clash—and what a day it was. The crowds returned in significant numbers and 1st Field looked resplendent with its temporary white picket fence and well manicured playing surface. There was healthy demand for the OIU BBQ throughout the day, with sales more than 50% higher than a regular home fixture. Thanks to all old boys and current parents who volunteered their time throughout the day. Back on home turf, our boys rose to the occasion. Across the board, Riverview teams showed resilience, flair and comraderie. While some matches slipped away by the narrowest margins, most teams held firm, delivering strong performances and scoreboard wins. The 1st XV led the charge with a composed, clinical 34–26 victory—built on defensive pressure, smart kicking, and unwavering belief. It was a statement win that sent them to the top of the GPS ladder. Other highlights from the day included the 15As recording their first ever win over Joeys and the 16As and Bs recording back to back victories over Joeys having both beaten the boys from over the river in the last round of 2024. The remaining 3 games of the GPS season promise to be entertaining and we wish all teams success, especially the 1st XV who have line of sight to another GPS rugby premiership. |
