The Old Ignatians' Union proudly recognises the outstanding achievements of Liam Grover (OR2023) and Joe Dillon (OR2023), who have been selected in the Junior Wallabies Under 20 squad competing at the World Rugby U20 Championship in Italy, from 29 June to 19 July. The tournament will be hosted across the cities of Viadana, Calvisano, Verona and Rovigo. Liam, who captained the Riverview 1st XV in 2023 and played at outside centre (#13), and Joe, the team's five-eighth (#10), were instrumental in a side that came close to securing the GPS Premiership. Both went on to represent Combined GPS and NSW Schoolboys teams. Liam is currently playing for Sydney University and is part of the NSW Waratahs pathway program, while Joe lines up for the Manly Marlins and is aligned with the ACT Brumbies. Earlier this year, they took part in the U20 "Rugby Championship" held in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), South Africa, facing off against Argentina, South Africa, and the All Blacks U20s—with the Junior Wallabies putting in a strong performance. The World Rugby U20 Championship has long been a springboard for future stars of the game (think Antoine Dupont), and the Wallabies will be hoping to make their mark in this year's edition. Both Joe and Liam have younger brothers currently at Riverview. Joe's brother, Sam, is in Year 11, a talented all-rounder who plays cricket for the 1st XI and rugby in the Opens. Liam's brother, Angus, is in Year 12 and captain of the Riverview 1st XV, which is currently leading the GPS competition. The OIU congratulates Liam Grover and Joe Dillon on their selection and wishes them all the very best as they take on the world in Italy. To follow their journey, all matches will be streamed live on Stan Sport. ![]() |
