June 14th was a day of fervent school spirit and nostalgic reunions as Saint Ignatius' College Riverview hosted its highly anticipated rugby clash against Saint Joseph's College Hunters Hill. Beyond the intense on-field rivalry, this traditional fixture served as a powerful magnet, drawing alumni from several graduating years back to their alma mater to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate enduring friendships. The return of the Saint Ignatius vs. Saint Joseph's rugby match to Riverview's hallowed grounds was more than just a sporting event; it was a cherished annual gathering that underscored the deep community bonds fostered by the College. The excitement of the 1st XV match was amplified by a series of planned reunions, allowing different generations of Old Ignatians to come together and relive their school days. It was a pleasure to be part of the reunions and have the opportunity to connect with Alumni while sharing the work and initiatives of the Old Ignatians' Union. Here's a look at the reunions that coincided with the big day on June 14th: Leaving Year 1995 Reunion: The Diddy. Damien Wills, alongside committee members Tim Galt and Angus Harris, ensured the Class of '95 had a memorable return to Riverview. Leaving Year 2000 Reunion: Cova Cottage. Mike Turner, with James Brennan assisting on the organising committee, coordinated this gathering.
Leaving Year 2005 Reunion: The Diddy. James Sheehan coordinated this reunion, with Richard Salter also on the organising committee. Leaving Year 2010 Reunion: The Diddy. Jack O'Connor was the person to get in touch with for the Class of 2010's gathering. Leaving Year 2015 Reunion: Ramsay Hall. Ben Johnston headed up the reunion efforts for the Class of 2015. Leaving Year 2020 Reunion: The Longueville. Archie Cornell and AJ Spring, on the organising committee, brought together the Class of 2020. These reunions highlighted the vibrant community spirit that thrives long after students graduate from Saint Ignatius' College. The occasion of a significant sporting event like the Saint Ignatius vs. Saint Joseph's rugby match provided the perfect backdrop for old boys to return, share stories, and reinforce the bonds that defined their Riverview experience. It was a testament to the enduring connections fostered by the College and the importance of coming together to celebrate a shared past and a continued future. Photo: 1995 Reunion |
