Rugby Union success for Max Threlkeld OR2022
Friday, 6 June 2025

Max Threlkeld (OR2022) is currently having a host of successes with his Rugby Union career since leaving Riverview. He is currently on a scholarship at the University of California, where this year he has won the D1A US National College Rugby Championship with the Cal Bears (https://calbears.com/news/2025/5/3/rugby-national-champions.aspx) in this past season.  He was also named an All-American (one of 111 players across the US college rugby competition) (https://calbears.com/news/2025/5/20/rugby-11-bears-named-all-americans.aspx) for the second time in his 3 years at University.

Closer to home, his greatest success was his senior international debut at 19 years old for the Hong Kong China Rugby Union team against Brazil in November 2024. This is after his captaincy of the U19 Hong Kong squad in previous years. He has very recently been named in the Hong Kong extended squad in their upcoming World Cup Asia qualifiers where they are hoping to qualify for the RWC 2027 in Australia for the first time in their history.

I wanted to bring up Max's story as a student-athlete as he was a very good friend of mine at Riverview who was a Boarder from Hong Kong between 2019-2022. He is an incredibly studious & humble man and is someone who embodies the values taught by Riverview.
