Earlier this month, I joined the Riverview Meet the Principal Boarding Roadshow as a representative of the Old Ignatians' Union (OIU) — and what a memorable weekend it was! The Roadshow, which visited Dubbo and Orange, was a powerful example of the strength and warmth that continues to bind the Riverview community together — whether current parents, past parents, or Old Boys. It served as a meaningful reminder that while our years at Riverview may be behind us, our connection to one another — and to the Jesuit values we share — endures. This year's visit held special significance as it marked the first regional tour for our new Principal, Mark Tannock, who was accompanied by College Rector Fr Tom Renshaw SJ (OR1990) and Director of Boarding, Anthony Begg. It was a privilege to watch these leaders spend time listening, learning, and engaging with families — past, present, and future — while deepening their understanding of the regional context that shapes so many of our boarders. Their genuine interest in the lives of country families was evident, and their message about the future of Riverview was filled with both optimism and shared purpose. The hospitality extended to the College — and to its Old Boy community — was nothing short of extraordinary. In Orange, we were welcomed into the home of the Madigan family, where Richard Madigan (OR1989) delivered a heartfelt toast to Riverview. He was well supported by a strong turnout of Old Boys, including: Robert Bruce (OR1957), Richard Campbell (OR1984), Jono Crosby (OR2014), Jeremy Curtin (OR1995), Tim Davidson (OR1984), James McKay (1995), Jason O'Dea (OR1989) Steph O'Dea (OR1984), Michael Payten (OR1975), Peter Solomon (OR1987), John Tancred (OR1965), and Toby Tancred (OR1989), alongside current, past, and prospective parents. Special toasts were also made to the oldest and youngest Old Boys in attendance: Robert Bruce (OR1957) and Jono Crosby (OR2014). In Dubbo, the gathering was held at the Macquarie Club, generously hosted by past parents Jeanagh and Christopher Condon, who spoke warmly of the College's legacy. Among those raising a toast to Riverview were: Steve Davies (OR1992), Peter Debus (OR1983), Michael Harrison (OR1955), Ben Le Lievre (OR1990), Tom Lyons (OR1956), Joe Mason (OR1991), Richie McKay (OR1949), Greg O'Brien (OR1962), Nick Redden (OR1992), and Peter Solomon (OR1987). The youngest Old Boy in attendance was Steve Davies (OR1992), and the oldest was Richie McKay (OR1949), who was accompanied by his wife, the spritely and engaging Maureen McKay. As the OIU representative, I had the opportunity to speak about the Union's role and to remind everyone that the Riverview journey doesn't end at graduation. The OIU exists to engage, connect, and support Old Ignatian men, and it was clear from the conversations on the night that being part of this lifelong community matters — not only in Sydney, but right across regional NSW. To strengthen these ties, Toby Tancred (OR1989) in Orange and Steve Davies (OR1992) in Dubbo have kindly volunteered to act as Regional Representatives for Reunions. I encourage any Old Boys in the area to reach out to them and stay connected with Old Boy activities locally. A sincere thanks to Christine Zimbulis for the enormous amount of work she and her team put into planning and organising these events, and for her ongoing support of the OIU. The next Meet the Principal Boarding Roadshow will be held on Friday, 2nd May in Scone. If you're an Old Boy in the area, spread the word — it's for all Old Boys, regardless of whether you're a current parent or not. It's a fantastic opportunity to reconnect and celebrate the Riverview spirit that lives on long after school. Further details here: https://oiu.org.au/OIUscone. Be sure to RSVP ASAP!
