The 30th De Carvalho Cup
Tuesday, 18 March 2025

The 30th De Carvalho Cup was played on First Field on Sunday 2 March 2025, continuing a tradition that honours Riverview Old Boys David (OR1948) and Sonny de Carvalho (OR1941) for their lasting contributions to the game. First played in 1995, the match sees the Riverview 1st XI take on an Old Boys' XI, many of whom play Grade cricket and for the Old Ignatians' Cricket Club.

This year's game was a thrilling contest, with the 1st XI securing victory with one over to spare. We were honoured to have Joan de Carvalho, widow of David (OR1948), in attendance to present the trophy. The Old Boys XI was captained by Joan's son, David (OR1980). Other guests included the former First XI player and Riverview XI coach, James Rodgers (OR1971), and the president of the Old Ignatians' Cricket Club (OICC), John Colquhoun (OR1989).

The OIU ran a BBQ throughout the day, which provided an extra incentive for the boarders to stop and watch some cricket, and allowed this year's BBQ co-captains, Ben Frawley (OR1987) and David McKay (OR1989) to hone their BBQ skills in the lead up to the winter season. The Old Boys XI comprised the following players: David De Carvalho (1980), John Colquhoun (1989), Jimmy Greenslade (OR2019), Jack Feilen (OR2019), Gabe Quoyle (OR2022), Miles O'Grady (OR2023), Chris Newton (OR1993), Nick Newton (OR2023), Sam Wright (OR2024), Alex Harvey (OR2024), Nick Garling (OICC and Riverview parent) and John Osborne (OICC and Riverview parent).

Thank you to everyone who made the day possible, especially Jason Krejza (Riverview Cricket Coordinator), Philip Koen (Riverview 1st XI coach), Ben Monaghan (Riverview 2nd XI coach) and Andrew Szabo (Co-curriculum).

It was a great day and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.
