Thursday, 20 March 2025

The Financial Advice Association Australia (FAAA) has awarded the Distinguished Service Awards (DSA) to Tim Mackay (OR1989), and his sister, Claire Mackay at the ICC in Sydney on 14 March.

As mentioned in its LinkedIn post, FAAA has a diverse membership, and it takes all kinds of members to work collaboratively to achieve its objectives. Some members have a passion for events and networking, while other members love the challenge of finding a better solution to improve the government policy and regulatory outcomes that confront the financial planning profession. These people are often behind the scenes, but their contribution is significant and must be recognised. The FAAA has celebrated and acknowledged Tim, and Claire on their richly deserved awards. Congratulations to you both.

Tim has made an unprecedented contribution to the policy work of the FAAA since he joined the Policy & Regulations Committee in 2009. During his 16 years, Tim actively engaged in meetings and gave significant input to many consultations, working groups and task forces. Tim has been a significant contributor to the policy work of the FAAA with a focus on and appreciation of the professionalisation and advancement of financial advice and financial advisers.

Away from work, and from an OIU perspective, Tim and his family are long term volunteers at St Theresa House and St Francis House. Tim was also Treasurer of the Riverview Parents and Friends Association in 2023.

Claire has been an outstanding contributor to the Professional Standards and Conduct Committee for eight years. She served on the Membership Committee for 2 years, has been a speaker at Masterclass and Congress, authored numerous articles and has been a positive force for good in advocating for the FAAA. Claire also served on the AFCA Board from 2018 to 2023. She is married to 2025 OIU Committee member, Angelo Maiorana (OR1989).

The OIU congratulates Tim and Claire for their contributions to the FAAA, which has not only assisted the FAAA but the greater financial advisory profession overall.
