Nostalgia Mass and Lunch
Thursday, 11 July 2024

The annual Nostalgia lunch was held at the school on Monday 1st of July. Members from 1940 to 1973 leaving years were invited. The day began with the Celebration of the Eucharist in the Dalton Chapel, concelebrated by three members of the OIU, including Fr Joe Dooley SJ (OR1968), Fr Dave Ryan SJ (OR1970) and Fr Bill Burt SVD (OR1964). After Mass, invited guests made their way to Ramsay Hall for the Lunch. Master of Ceremonies Paul Keighery (OR1962) welcomed members and friends of the Union.

The Toast to The College was given by Ken Rennie (OR1956). He spoke about the challenges of going out into the wide world after receiving a Riverview education and highlighted some of the distinct challenges facing Australian society in the late 50s. He spoke very fondly of the friends that he made during his time at the school and the wonderful staff and teachers that he had, including many Jesuits. Towards the end of the proceedings three cheers were given out to a former President, Charlie Pidcock (OR1987), who at that exact time during the lunch, was hours away from completing the 42km swim across the English Channel to France.

A video message was then sent to Charlie's support team. The Union would like to thank the Advancement Office, including Heather Mitchell, for all her work on the lunch, including coordinating the attendees from all over Sydney and New South Wales.
