OIU Christmas Drinks at The Verandah Bar
Wednesday, 10 December 2025

The annual OIU Christmas Drinks were held on Thursday, 13 November at the Verandah Bar in the Sydney CBD.

Around 30–40 Old Ignatians joined the celebrations, with attendees ranging from our youngest Old Boy, Prit Shrivastav (OR2024), through to our most experienced, Rob Hartman (OR67). It was great to see Phil Sullivan (OR90) who travelled the furthest, making the trip from Melbourne.

The evening was relaxed and enjoyable, giving many the chance to reconnect with classmates and meet Old Boys from other year groups. A number of conversations began with "Back when I was a lad…"—usually ending in a mix of laughter, nodding, or mild astonishment.

What became clear was how easily connections formed, regardless of age or graduating year. These gatherings offer more than a social catch-up. They help Old Boys find common ground, learn from each other's experiences, and strengthen relationships that support wellbeing and a sense of belonging.

The OIU extends its sincere thanks to Cath Moore (OIU Operations) for organising the event, and to Sian and the Verandah Bar team for their excellent hospitality. We also gratefully acknowledge Nick Wills (OR88) for his continued support of the OIU through Tilley & Wills and their hospitality venues.

Thank you to all who attended and helped make the night a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable occasion.

Christmas cheer to all, Brian Shanahan
