The Jesuit Mission Bazaar Returns
Monday, 15 September 2025

Last Saturday saw the running of the Jesuit Mission Bazaar. First held in 1952, it's been a part of both the Riverview and the broader Jesuit community of Sydney for more than 70 years. Originally established to raise money to support Jesuit missionaries working with disadvantaged communities in India, it has expanded to support Jesuit Mission activities across Asia. The Sustaining Education for Burmese Refugees, is one such activity, providing schooling for over 3000 children, as well as teacher training and psychological programs for young people facing challneges from the dislocation of their families and communities from the conflict zone on the Thai-Myanmar border.

Despite inclement weather earlier in the week, Saturday was a beautiful day filled with people and activity. A big shout out to the OIU community who contributed to the day, including Adrian Roche and Michael Brooks who are continuing the tradition of the Ham Wheel, putting a new spin on it (excuse the pun) by introducing a new protein and establishing the Ham & Lamb Wheel in 2025. Thanks also to the O'Dea family who ran their annual BBQ, feeding thousands of attendees with the support of OIU and P&F volunteers on the BBQs. And, of course, thanks to John Meagher and Nick Butler, who ran the annual wine auction.

Congratulations also to Paul Brogan who won a ham spun by the communities good friend Matty. Overall, a great day to engage and connect with friends old and new, while contributing to a very important cause.
