Acknowledging the Generosity of the late Paul Ramsay AO (OR1953)

Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview deeply appreciates the ongoing support, care and devotion of the Riverview community.
Today we are writing to you in the interest of providing information and transparency surrounding the well-known, personal generosity of the late, beloved Paul Ramsay AO (OR1953) towards the College.

During his lifetime, he donated $2.1million toward the Riverview Bursary Program and various capital works, including the new boathouse and Ramsay Hall, both eponymously named after a distinguished Jesuit, his brother, Fr John X Ramsay SJ.

After his untimely passing in 2014, Paul’s generosity toward his alma mater continued with a bequest of $1million to the College. This bequest supports the Riverview College Foundation Building Fund and the Riverview capital building program – The Ignis Project.

The project commenced in December 2016 to provide a state-of-the-art learning environment for Riverview students of the present and future. To date, the College has raised in excess of $7million toward the redevelopment of learning and teaching spaces across campus.

The remainder of Paul’s $3billion estate was donated to establish the Paul Ramsay Foundation. The Foundation honours Paul’s legacy by embodying the Ignatian values of service and social justice. Focusing largely on medical research and areas of social need, the Paul Ramsay Foundation will be of enduring benefit to the Australian community.

The Paul Ramsay Foundation has indicated that additional support for Riverview does not feature in its plans.

We are extremely grateful to Paul Ramsay for his contribution, together with all members of the Riverview family. The trust and support you place in Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview enables us to continue providing the best facilities for learning and pastoral care for our boys.

This statement has been drafted in consultation, and with the support of, the Paul Ramsay Foundation.
