The Old Ignatians' Companions Mentoring Program was launched in 2020 in response to survey feedback from younger old boys as to how the OIU could best support them in their transition from their school years. Over the past two years, the Companions Mentoring program has grown to a community of more than 140 mentees and mentors. The purpose of the program is to provide a platform for younger old boys, notionally those who have finished at Riverview in the last 5 to 10 years, to connect with older old boys for the purpose of providing support, advice and mentoring. The mentoring support might relate to topics such as managing the transition from university to the workforce, how best to navigate working life and build a career, how to start your own business, the pros and cons of taking time out to travel, uncertainty with regard to choosing what path to follow post leaving school, university, TAFE or an apprenticeship. The Companions mentors come from a wide array of backgrounds including professional services, property, law, medicine, agribusiness, trades, the arts and professional sports. At the heart of the Companions Mentoring program is a belief that in being men for others, we can help one another be as much as we can be. For those interested in becoming either a mentor or mentee, please email mentoring@oiu.org.au to register your interest. Andrew McInernery Coordinator OIU Companions Mentoring Program |
