Life Membership Awarded to Country Rugby Union Stalwart
Monday, 18 December 2023
Central North Rugby Union recently awarded Tony Byrnes (OR63) Life Membership at their AGM.  Tony began playing for the Barraba "Pirates" in 1965, their inaugural season. Over the next 10 years he pulled on the "black and gold" jumper more than 130 times, including one memorable game alongside his son Tim !

Tony hadn't ever seen the game of Rugby before he arrived at "View.   By the time he finished school in Year 12, he had made his way up to the First XV and his love of the game never waned after that.

After he finished his playing career, Tony turned his hand to administration, being the second-longest serving President.  Commenting on his award, Tony said 'I really believe the game has a great future".

Congrats Tony from the OIU.
